Water Bottles Video

Here is a simple video that is not too exciting, but gets the message across that we are drinking too much bottled water and not recycling enough of them. Less than 20 percent of water bottles in America are recycled. Bottled water is not necessarily healthier or cleaner than tap water and it definitely is not better for the environment. Of course news like this does not really help since people will be hesitant to drink tap water and more likely to drink bottled water. That is why it is good to have some sort of filtering for your home.

Solar Power Tower

Solar reflecting mirrors that currently power the village. The heat creates hot air which rises in the tower to spin a turbine which then generates electricity.

A new firm called Torresol Energy is planning on building two of these a year with a goal of generating 320 megawatts over the next 5 years and 1,000 megawatts in 10 years.

Vampire Power

Here is a video from Treehugger showing the effects of leaving appliances and electronics plugged into wall outlets. What I don’t get is why there aren’t more power surge protectors or gadgets that will kill the power to an outlet with a button. There are adapters that plug into outlets that have a light switch that you can turn on and off, but I haven’t really seen power surges that work the same way. The only ones I know of are here.
