thermometer 2007 was hot!

2007 is on track to be the second warmest year since records have been tracked in the 1860s behind 1998. There were reports that predicted 2007 to be the warmest year on record, but it looks like it will have to come in 2nd.  The trend is headed towards more droughts, floods, heatwaves, and powerful storms but many climate experts say that individual extreme events may not be caused by global warming and is just naturally chaotic. An increase in global temperatures however, can affect changes such as increasing the sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation that results in floods and droughts. In Greece, temperatures have reached 114.8F (46C) degrees this week as part of a heatwave in southern parts of Europe. Parts of China are also going through a heat wave, while Northern England and parts of Texas are having the most rain of the year. The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that human activities led by the use of fossil fuels and increase in greenhouse gas were “very likely” the cause of global warming in the past half-century.
